Technological progress for a proximity service
Thanks to its 400 000 readers and 8 regional editions, the Belgian press group "Vers l’Avenir" is one of the most popular media in Wallonia.
As obituaries are part of a high standard proximity service, VA has decided to develop an extranet application allowing to enter obituaries so that undertaker’s themselves are immediately able to encode the information by means of a Web application.
After considering the existing tools on the market, the VA group has chosen to develop a tailor-made solution and has called on CEDITI.
The extranet is an internet site that can only be accessed by undertaker’s recorded as customers and identified by the system. It consists of a set of web pages allowing to place standard obituaries (announcements, messages of thanks, commemorations) by means of the web and to manage some preferences by default in order to automate data processing as much as possible.
In parallel, we developed a content management tool as web pages that enable VA operators in charge of the site to follow up obituaries insertions, to run default preferences and to run the data base content tables with basic information. Just as for extranet, the management tool access only falls within the competence of users authenticated in the system.
Besides, this new application had to integrate in the existing environment and to interface with the "back-office" tools used by the VA group : SAP for the whole process of releasing classified ads and invoicing and some tools specific to edition (making up, ads composition, production instructions and pictures flow). Moreover, as some undertaker’s have no computers, the system must finally allow a coherent cohabitation between extranet and former insertion methods. It’s the reason why a series of existing data (dictionaries of localities, pictograms, dictionaries of thoughts, etc.) have also been integrated.
