La Libre Culture, a cultural supplement from La Libre Belgique
In this day of on-line newspapers, readers of dailies expect to be informed in a precise and complete manner regarding all cultural events, whether they are in their immediate area, national events or a festival at the other end of Europe.
Regularly publishing this much information can not be done without the use of databases that include all of the events to come : programs for film, theatre, concerts, performances, exhibits and many more.
Journalists from the Libre Belgique use a Web Server application developed by CEDITI, which provides them with the means of encoding and then retrieving cultural data, in a manner that is particularly efficient and flexible.
The system as a whole is based on SilverStream, which not only guarantees rapid implementation in a multi-platform environment (Windows, Unix), but which allows for all the necessary evolutions, in as many steps as requested.
For example, the migration of an Internet site to an open Internet site can be done without any modifications being made to the code operating on the server.
The application allows for the weekly production of the Libre Belgique’s cultural supplement: each Tuesday, the pertinent information is extracted from the database in XML format and are sent to the printing presses of the Libre Belgique, to produce the insert for the following week.
